NEWS

3/20/2024 Week 1: Avery’s Spring

The season is officially underway!

13 Players made their way down to Avery’s Spring to enjoy a beautiful day of challenging woods golf on Wednesday. Check out the awesome photos from our official league photographer, Danielle Pharr.

For those that haven’t been, Avery’s Spring is a short but challenging private course in Arden. If you’d like to check it out, please head to their facebook page and request a tee time. The link is on our website in our “sponsors and partners” section!

When it was all said and done we were able to crown some winners:

Gage Hewell of East Henderson took down Junior Varsity with a 60.

Fern Leaf’s Norah Krumholz extended her win streak in the Throw Pink Varsity Girls division to SEVEN in a row, with a scorching (unofficial) 854 rated 55.

In the Varsity boys division, we saw a battle at the top of the leaderboard. FOUR players finished within 1 stroke of the lead, including a tie for first. Brayden Tody (Fern Leaf) and Ben Hichliffe (West Henderson) finished one off of the lead in a tie for third place at 51.

Logan Stubbs (Fern Leaf) displayed his busy offseason practice by shooting (unofficially) 61 points above his rating with a 920 rated 50. Logan competed in the JV division last season, finishing first in the regular season standings.

However, when it came time to the playoff, Colin Breiter (Christ School) had hole one dialed in with his Berg. He parked it in both the round and the playoff, and secured the win. Colin picks up his third WNCHSDG career win.

A HUGE HUGE thank you to all the volunteers, supporters, coaches, parents, and sponsors for a successful week one.

The winners took home custom stamped (by another round) MVP discs. CTP prizes included a USWDGC Discraft Buzzz, a Throw Pink stamped Innova Valkyrie, and a pair of James Conrad Nomads.

Along with the companies listed above, a big thanks to the other league sponsors, including: WNCDGC, the WNC Nature Center, AVL Disc Golf and Circle3 printing. Links to each sponsor’s website on our website!

Our next event is in two days at Owen High School! The open course challenges players with lots of shot shapes, punishing errant throws with OB. The forecast is calling for plenty of sunshine and birdies, so see you there!

As always, a HUGE thank you to our spring 2024 sponsors and partners. Please support them for supporting us!
